About Me

Elizabeth Macnish has never been published despite there being a plethora of writings cloistered away in her filing cabinets. Her christmas missives have been received with such success, laughter and tears over the years that she has been encouraged to write.

Like her mother and grandparents, Elizabeth was born in Tenterfield – a small country town of great historical significance in the northern highlands of New South Wales, Australia. It is a Federation town, more popularly called “the birthplace of the nation” as it was there that Sir Henry Parkes make his famous speech which launched federation in Australia.

It was also the birthplace of the very famous singer and entertainer Peter Allen, and of F.J. Thomas who defended Breaker Morant in a court martial during the Boer War, unsuccessfully unfortunately, and where the much loved Australian poet, Banjo Patterson, met and married his wife Alice Walker.

Her mother was a journalist, music teacher and had her own radio programme  in Parkes, NSW during WWII.  Her father was a member of the RAAF serving in South East Asia. After their marriage in 1949 they resided in Tenterfield and he fulfilled a life long ambition of becoming a grazier.

She has 2 brothers, John who is a retired school teacher, former deputy mayor and grazier in Tenterfield and Brian who is an attorney, working in finance and living in New York.

Thereafter she attended Queensland University attaining a law degree.  During that time she briefly married.

She has practised as a solicitor for many years, having practices in Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne. She has also worked at the Australian High Commission in London and the Australian Embassy in Paris.
